Quite often there have been avoidable yet very harmful impulsive actions made by teenagers and young adults that have resulted in suicide. The state of Utah ranks 5th in the country for suicide rates and 45% of them have been caused by firearms.
Recently a House committee passed a firearms-safety strategy bill by a solid vote that is geared toward preventing suicides and at the same time will provide state refunds for some who invest in gun safes. Firearm safety literature will be provided which will discuss such information as suicide prevention, safe storage and handling of guns and more.
This important bill will cost $900,000 which will be supplied from the surplus resources previously collected from the concealed-carry license fees.
