Their products are among the most technologically advanced, reliable, and secure on the market and are packed with the features every gun owner demands in a safe. Out of seven biometric pistol safes in their lineup, the Microvault MVB 500 sets itself apart with its compact size, easy access, and great price.
Dimensions and Capacity
The MicroVault Pistol safe measures 2.25” x 8.5” x 11” on the outside with a single internal compartment with dimensions of 2” x 6.5” x 10.75”. That gives the MicroVault enough room to store most standard sized handguns, an extra mag, and box of ammo. Depending on the size of your weapon, there could also be enough extra space for a tactical flashlight, laser sight, or optic. The safe has an egg carton foam lining to keep your gun and accessories snug and secure.

Biometric Fingerprint Gun Safe Technology
GunVault’s Biometric fingerprint opening system is one of the most innovative designs found in a safe to date. The biometric scanner is designed for foolproof recognition and rapid entry, even in the dark and under duress. It uses an advanced algorithm that updates the system’s fingerprint templates each time a registered user touches the fingerprint sensor. This decreases the system’s False Reject Rate and helps to distinguish variations in user prints.
Setting up and Using Fingerprint Access
The system is capable of recognizing up to 120 individual fingerprints. Though you probably won’t use all of them, you can insert multiple fingers from each hand in various positions to ensure you’ll gain access if a finger is cut or injured. When you first program the system you’ll be asked to enter two “administrator” positions that are essentially the safe’s master key in fingerprint form. After these two positions are entered, any additional fingerprint entries will first require the entry and permission of one of the master prints. If multiple false entries are detected, the biometric system blocks access to the safe.
Construction and Security Features
Unlike most deadbolt locking gun safes, the GunVault Microvault employs the use of a spring-loaded toggle that latches similarly to the trunk or hood of your car.
Despite seeming vulnerable to forced entry, the locking mechanism is actually quite resilient. The hinge on the safe has a non-removable pin that’s snugly installed to protect it from forced entry. The safe’s body is formed by placing a piece of steel between a male and female die in a multi-ton press to shape the box in a similar process used to make car parts. Though not fireproof rated, this safe is much more secure than the locker-like steel of many competitor safes.
Back-up and Mounting Features
The safe operates on a 9-volt battery that keeps the electronics system running for years. No mounting hardware is included but there are pre-drilled holes with the option to mount the safe to the floor or wall. For added security,GunVault does include a four foot security cable, similar to that used to lock-up laptops, for tethering the safe to a secure object. Also included are two back-up override keys for opening the safe manually or when the battery dies, indicated by an LED light indicator.

Out of 198 total reviews on Amazon, the GunVault MicroVault Biometric Pistol Safe has received 82 5-star reviews.
One reviewer (S. Lin) wrote, “It can easily hold one handgun and a couple of magazines, or 2 smaller handguns…this is perfect for keeping children out of it and still allow fast access.” A 3-star reviewer (Mike McLafferty) wrote, “The biometric capability of any safe is still just developing. I figured out how to get the biometric feature to work, but it took a few tries. Still the price is great…I would recommend always storing a loaded weapon in a secure locked safe.” Compact, built tough, and high-tech, there are few better biometric pistol safes around.
