Their products, which are geared toward security, storage, and hardware, are manufactured to be distributed globally. Viking manufactures a wide variety of safes in varying sizes with both traditional locks and top-of-the-line fingerprint technology. The Viking VS-35BM Biometric safe is one of many well-received safes manufactured by the fairly new company.

Dimensions and Capacity

The Viking VS-35BM is an exceptionally diverse safe. It can easily hold a handgun, small personal valuables, laptop, or other electronics, though its size does not lend itself to holding larger firearms such as rifles. The safe’s outer dimensions are 13.8 inches x 17 inches x 8 inches, which makes it fairly portable if needed. It’s inner dimensions are 8 inches x 17 inches x 13.75 inches, which is respectable for a handgun-only safe. The safe, like most, comes with an internal padding to protect the contents inside. Its weighs 35 pounds, which makes it a little on the heavy side to move frequently.

Biometric Fingerprint Technology

The Viking VS-35BM safe employs biometric technology, and when compared to other brands with similar products, Viking has done a great job with this technology. The fingerprint locking technology adds rapid speed to opening the lock, and this biometric reader uses what is called an optical sensor. This is different from other safes that employ semi-conductors and adds to the quality of the safe as a whole. The safe can store up to 100 fingerprints, and the company boasts that the safe can read a fingerprint in one second or less. Less than once second to open a safe is a great feature.

Construction and Other Features

The safe is constructed of a thick and heavy gauge steel on all sides-including the door. They have also taken extra measures to deter prying, and the company claims that the safe is virtually impossible to penetrate. Its finished with a powder coated black polish, and it looks very sharp in the advertised photographs. The reader doesn’t stick out, because it matches the color of the safe making the whole thing take on a modern appearance.

The safe’s door is motorized, which adds even more speed to the access of the safe. This motorized door also speaks to the security of the safe as a whole because a motorized door is certainly harder to force open than one on hinges. The safe includes batteries, and also two extra access keys. One feature I do appreciate about this safe is that it warns when the batteries are low with a blinking light. This would help to avoid getting yourself locked out of that safe and having to fool with the keys.  The safe does come with mounting bolts, and can be mounted to a wall, cabinet, or even the floor. All Viking safes are backed by a one-year warranty.

Amazon Reviews

This safe maintains a 4-star review on Amazon.com with over 40 reviews, and almost half of these reviewers gave the safe 5 stars. Most users rave about the biometric technology. One user, Vilma, says that the technology “is super fast,” which speaks to the difference in technology Viking has chosen. Another user, simba, says they “love it,” and that the safe gives “prompt access to [the] items inside.”  Overall, this safe has excellent reviews and more than its share of support. I’d say it’s a great choice for anyone looking for a small personal biometric safe.
